A Name is Born

What do you do when you plant trees hoping in 10 years you will have a Christmas tree farm? Well…you give your farm a name and make t-shirts of course!
When we first bought this property and we were building our home, our daughter was 3 and our son was a colicky baby. He was the type of baby that would have been everyone’s first and last…but he was our second so at least we got our first too lol!
I was at home with both of the kids and Matt would be at school all day. When he would get home, we got into the routine of going to the most peaceful place we could think of to get away from the colicky baby. (Yes he would come with us, what kind of people do you think we are?). The only place he would NOT cry was the car and “the land”. We would go set up shop on the porch of the house that had not yet been complete.
For a few hours each evening we would enjoy dreaming of the possibilities of raising our family here. We would look at the progress of the house, we would enjoy a few hours of no crying from the boy. And it became how we would spend the next few months.
When we would get the kids ready every night as my husband got home, our daughter would excitedly ask us, “Are we going to La Land?” She was three and you know how 3 year olds say cute things? Well, “La” was actually the word “the”, but as things do, this became the new name of our land as we would pack them into the car, listen to Big Green Tractor on the radio, and drive past the “broken o” (a story for another time) and we would sit on the porch of an unfinished house, play in mud puddles and wait for the sun set.
A name was born…

Until next time...

Your tree quest sadly was a costly experience. Love your ‘la land’ story! Hopefully flowers will be kinder than pine trees. I missed your 2/2026 dahlia sales. Hope to learn of you sooner. If you’re having a drawing - add me! Thank you.
